I assumed there was a span of your time where it had been the barrel and not the receiver, but very likely got that combined up While using the 1890 data. Thanks for clearing that 1 up. I am nevertheless inquisitive about the reasoning behind the WP’s use at that point in the sport. Chris

The 1st Models were being available completely in good body; subsequent models were being available also in takedown configuration. All to start with and early next models experienced scenario hardened receivers.

Ned Schwing stated in his reference reserve about the Product 1890 & 1906 that Winchester began proof marking them in 1908… I do not know if that is correct, but will believe that it's. The “WP” evidence mark was utilized following the barrel and receiver ended up mated, assembled and completed. This is extremely apparent within the firearms produced during the late teenagers by early 30s when the blue flaked (popped) off in the event the proof was struck around the receiver frame.

At what issue was the “Circle VP” for “Seen Proved” stamp placed on the underside Winchester shotguns with the barrel–pursuing the weighty load testing, the “VP” remaining utilized once the visual inspection of your barrel? The “VP” is observed on each individual 1892 and 1894 barrel I have seen from the start to the tip of production, bridging the day for the looks in the “WP”. Then why the addition of your “WP”—I admit I am no history buff, just curious concerning the reasoning with the “WP”.
